Dangers of Accordion Elevator Gate
The gap between an accordion gate and a landing is large enough that children and small pets can fall in. Adding to the danger is the fact that there is nothing to stop an elevator from moving up or down when there is an obstruction resulting in serious injury or death.
Scissor Gate

Dangers of Elevator Scissor Gates
The open fence-like nature of scissor gates makes them a safety hazard. Children can climb up and out into unsafe territory. Fingers can be pinched. Riders can reach through even during movement. Compounding the danger is the unsafe gap between a scissor gate and landing.
